I fell in love with the background I picked, and I wanted to do something culturally appropriate with it.  This is a dollmaker I'd never seen before, and I really don't like what they did with the right hand, but I can't draw well enough to do anything about it.  I ended up with two versions with very different flavors, and I'm posting them both because I couldn't decide which I like better.  The pink got changed to blue because (a) I hate pink, and (b) blue is a good-luck color in the culture.

Bases:  1, 2, 3

Feedback: What beautiful dolls Judith! And they match very well with the background you've chosen. I'm also glad to see you branching out your doll making websites, though of course elouai will always have the most options. However, you certainly made the most out of what you were given, and I can't seem to pick a favourite either! I think I am slightly leaning towards the blue because it's so bright and colourful that it makes me smile! The garment itself has so many interesting beadings and textures to it as well which brings life to the piece in general. I think that the pattern in her veil if a bit much, of would of preferred softer colours or just a plain light blue but that's just being nitpicky to be honest. I love the simplicity of of the black robes, and the teal pattern on her sleeves are very subtle but is really what completes the look. I can definitely imagine one of my friends wearing it out. The fist does look rather odd, as if she's supposed to be holding something? Perhaps if you had tucked a book, or a basket of random stuff into that fist, it would look a little bit more natural. Well done!

Prompt #7

Please incorporate the theme colours of The Joker or Harley Quinn into your graphic or doll. Feel free to refer to either the comic versions or any movie versions.

This is another doll from the new website.  I decided to give her old-style Harley Quinn colors - mostly black and red, with a little bit of white.  Much as I like the new Harley from the Suicide Squad movie, her color scheme doesn't do it for me.

Base

Feedback: Lovely work as always Judith! I like the set of clothes you've chosen, and I find that the Harley Quinn comic colour scheme really matches the ethnicity of your doll (which I assume is Chinese, if that was your plan). I would have to say this recolour job isn't as clean as your previous recolour jobs, and I think it's partly due to your base. The edges just don't seem very smooth and look almost jagged and pixel-y instead. It's most prominent on the back of her heels and on the right-hand side of her shirt. It brings down the quality of your amazing work ): I unfortunately don't have an easy fix to it because the same jaggedness appears in the base, so it seems to be the dollmaker's fault. The only way I can think of fixing it is super tedious and not at all worth the effort haha. Overall, I think the selection of clothes and colour palette is really great but the edges are a bit jagged, bring down the quality of the work.

I decided to go old with this one, and use someone who was not exactly heroic, but who was kind of a hero to me, particularly in retrospect.  When I was a kid, my favorite cartoon show featured Rocky the flying squirrel and Bullwinkle the moose.  The show had several different titles through the years.  It was one of those shows that had elements that mostly went over the heads of the kids who were officially watching.  For example, Rocky was the one who introduced me to the concept that "military intelligence" was a contradiction in terms.  Anyway, I have selected Rocky for the subject of my graphic because he was the brainy one of the pair, and even at that age I appreciated the value of a good brain.

Bases:  1, 2, 3

Feedback: A fairly simple graphic, but I rather like it. It's whimsical and cute and I feel the choice of font for your text really suits the overall feel of your graphic! Your blending is perfect as always, except for the bottom right one, where his tail seems a bit off? I'm not sure what happened there because it didn't seem to require any blending as its part of the background image? Perhaps something morphed when you reduced it's size, but there's a section that looks bolder and out of place. That's the only thing that's bugging me, other than that, super cute! Love it (:

Doh! Feedback is coming soon, I'm currently writing them on my Notepad but I first need to get my brain working to give back any useful feedback. Meanwhile...

I kind of went sideways with this one.  The line is from X-Men First Class:  Erik telling Charles, "I've been at the mercy of men just following orders.  Never again."  I can't say it's my favorite line, but it moves me all over again every time I see the movie, and I've seen the movie a lot.  In fact, it's my most-watched movie ever.

I have strong Jewish roots, and strong emotional ties to the Holocaust.  To me, it and previous historical events similar to it are the reason why the state of Israel needs to exist - to give us a place to go that is ours, where the persecutors will face strong, effective resistance if they ever try to follow.  Because anti-Semitism continues to be a fact of life and, I fear, always will be.

Bases:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Feedback: This is a very strong piece in terms of inspiration and emotion emulated in your graphic. I like the choice of colours you've chosen as I feel it symbolises the struggles. It stands in stark contrast with the colours of the flag, making it stand out and drawing focus to it. You're blending is impeccable and I have no qualms or little nitpicking tidbits at all, everything seems to blend seamlessly like it was one all along. Thank you for sharing a quote that has such deep meaning for you.
